A Day to Make No Corners Here: Photographs

Young budding architects of Milton Keynes were invited to join Architecture For All on 18th January 2020 for a day of making, led by the thoughts and ideas of community organisation Global Outreach Foundation MK on their home city.

The day was a culmination of several workshops  in November and December 2019 – discussing and sharing views on and responding creatively to MK’s founding principles of design with Global Outreach’s members. With heritages from several different African nations (including Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and South Africa), they debated the relevance of new towns, garden cities and Western modernist housing projects’ assumptions for the citizen of 21st Century, and for those with a diverse heritage, living in a multi ethnic society.

The concept of ubuntu  – where everyone takes their place in the circle – seemed more appropriate as a model of contemporary living than the rectilinear prospects of old; hence no corners here.

Family Sharing Day: Photographs

Our final event, the Family Learning & Sharing Day, was held on July 7th at Crystal Palace Parks. Members of the three community groups involved in the project came to see the drawings and models of their proposals, and partook in various open workshops!

This was a great opportunity to wrap up the project, share it with passer-bys and enjoy a sunny summer’s day in the park!

Guided tour celebrates the innovation behind this iconic park

On Sunday July 1, 2pm to 4pm, the creative heritage project ‘Design and Build: A History of Crystal Palace Park’ is holding a guided tour of this iconic London landscape. This free tour, open to all, uncovers the stories behind the iconic landscape and architecture of Crystal Palace Park.

Based on archive research into the different designs and uses of the park, the tour will open up and reveal its historical development – from a setting for Joseph Paxton’s “Crystal Palace” in the 1850s, to London County Council’s National Sports Centre of the 1960s.

The event is part of a wider programme of architecture and heritage-based public engagement activities, produced by the organisation Architecture for All and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the London Borough of Bromley.

The tour lasts two hours. It is free but places are limited so booking is essentialTickets can be reserved here.
