Architecture For All was awarded a grant by the London Borough of Bromley and the Heritage Lottery Fund to deliver ‘Design & Build‘ – an intergenerational project that aimed to protect and unlock the creativity of the historic landscape designs of Crystal Palace Park. Utilising local archives, a programme of creative workshops & tours, and a network of partnerships, ‘Design and Build’ explored the landscape architecture of one of London’s most iconic parks and opened up discussions about its future.
This brought together a diverse range of park users in a process of sharing, commissioning and creating: a class from Churchfield’s Primary School, the Anerley Youth Group and the Alpine Walkers of Silverfit commissioned each other to imagine landscape and architectural interventions in the park. Through practical workshops with historians, arts facilitators and architects, the three groups developed their proposals which were finally revealed at a Family Sharing Event in the park, using drawings and models.
A film, a Teachers’ Pack and a Learning Map were produced as legacy, available on this website.
“Anerley Town Hall Youth Club welcomes the opportunity to take part in this exciting project which will encourage young people to appreciate their local environment and the architectural and cultural history that they are lucky to have right on their doorstep!”
“We are delighted to support this project, which, thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, will mean that more people will be able to explore the exciting architectural heritage of Crystal Palace Park – from model dinosaurs and mazes, to motor racing and the National Sport Centre!“
